The wine was aged in 60 % new French and American oak barrels and 40% one year old barrels for twelve months. The wine is full-bodied and complex with a firm acid backbone and clear garnet color. The aromas are cherry, cassis and spicy oak. It finishes smooth with a hint of bittersweet chocolate. It was created in the early 20th century by an Austrian scientist who crossed the soft plush blaufrankisch (lemburger) with the dark, high acid Saint Laurent. The result is a light to medium tannin texture reminiscent of the richest Beaujolais vineyards, a bright cherry nose with hints of dark chocolate and crisp acidity on the finish.
